Meet the Illustrator: Amy Calautti

Describe your illustration fashion in ten phrases or much less. 
Nostalgic, cheerful, humourous, little bit kitsch, and enjoyable loving characters.

I really like a mechanical pencil. And my mild desk, it is saved my fingers and eyes from aching when drawing my closing draft onto watercolour paper, or after I’m ten drafts in! I exploit Artwork Spectrum watercolour tubes and Faber Castell Polychromos pencils. I desire Archers 300g scorching press paper.

I really like Mary Blair’s work – she was a conceptual artist for Disney. I feel her most well-known work is from Cinderella, Alice In Wonderland and Peter Pan. If I needed to take a sneaky peak, it will be the the Impressionists. It appears to me like they loved life normally. It could be pretty to spend a day of their firm. I might love to go to Monet’s backyard in the future!


Who or what impressed you to develop into an illustrator?

I’ve at all times liked artwork. Again after I was an adolescent, I believed I would prefer to be a designer, so I studied Trend at TAFE.  I left two years later with the information that I actually appreciated to attract however had no clue about what path to take. It took a number of years to start out drawing once more. Once I left my paying job and have become a mom, I made a decision to start out drawing daily for a problem on instagram. These drawings belong within the corridor of disgrace! A number of years later, a pal instructed me concerning the 52 week illustration problem. Gah! It hurts my eyes! LOL. My work area is located within the playroom. Fortunately for me I’ve claimed a window spot.

When the watercolour has dried, and I can begin my color pencil work. That is after I can see my work trying extra closing.

What recommendation would you give to an aspiring illustrator?

I am aspiring myself. My recommendation is to seek out your tribe, encourage one another.

You Tube movies, do courses, set targets for your self. Most significantly, do the work! Be prolific when you can.


Amy lives together with her husband and two pet monkeys, (truly kids) who carry her infinite inspiration. Amy’s favorite time of the day, is when the youngest pet monkey takes his nap. Then she sits by by the window in her studio, (truly the playroom) and makes her humorous little drawings.
