Review: Count the Monkeys

A joyous and very distinctive interactive image e-book from the unbelievable Mac Barnett, writer of Triangle, Sam and Dave Dig a Gap, and Leo: A Ghost Story amongst many, many sensible others.

From the title web page onwards, Barnett addresses the readers and entices us to take part within the story via a sequence of various requests and directions, all of the whereas encouraging us to maneuver via the e-book and discover the Monkeys that we try to rely.

The issue is nevertheless, that ONE King Cobra has scared the Monkeys away (flip the web page very slowly, very rigorously so he would not discover us). What could possibly be worse than that? Perhaps FOUR Grizzly Bears (Okay. Put your arms above your head! Make a loud roar!). Or EIGHT Lumberjacks (Inform these guys to scram!).

Because it will get more and more extra crowded, the directions and dialogue between Barnett and the readers will get much more outrageous and hilarious. The improbable conversational tone of the textual content made this nice enjoyable for me to learn to my littlies, they beloved being requested to make ridiculous gestures and say foolish issues, and I might see this being an enormous hit with bigger teams throughout library or class story instances as effectively.

Whereas counting the monkeys is considerably tougher than one may assume given the title of the e-book, the counting components are nonetheless current all through the story and the numerical illustration permits younger readers to realize recognition of numbers from 1 although to 10.
